      AMBIEN Side Effects

Common AMBIEN side effects include:

  • Daytime drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Lightheadedness
  • Difficulty with coordination
In controlled clinical studies, the most commonly seen AMBIEN side effects with short-term AMBIEN treatment have been daytime drowsiness in 2% of subjects, dizziness in 1%, and diarrhea in 1%.

AMBIEN will cause drowsiness and may cause dizziness. Avoid or use caution when driving an automobile, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. AMBIEN should be taken just before bedtime. You may experience some carryover effects the following day. Do not drink alcohol while taking AMBIEN. Do not share AMBIEN with others for whom it was not prescribed, since they may have a problem that is not effectively treated by this drug.

AMBIEN is habit forming. Do not stop taking AMBIEN abruptly if you have been taking it for more than 1 or 2 weeks as this may cause withdrawal symptoms. Talk to your doctor if you need to stop your treatment with AMBIEN.

Stop taking AMBIEN and seek emergency medical attention if you experience: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, face, or tongue; hives); or hallucinations, abnormal behavior, or severe confusion. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
